Challenging yourself to periodically reflect on your practice is a massive part of learning and growing; reflecting forces you to drill down into what you actually believe is important.

This article is a great example of reflection -- David is an expert teacher, but even experts should force themselves to codify their fundamental beliefs and actions for their profession.
